  • Abdominoplasty
An abdominoplasty, also termed a "tummy tuck", creates a slim, smooth and tight tummy. For patients who have recently lost weight or those who have extra flab around their waist that they want to get rid of, abdominoplasty is an effective weight loss solution. Although the results from abdominoplasty are long-lasting, lifestyle choices affect one’s weight loss transition. It's easy to regain weight if one fails to exercise or follow a healthy diet. Sometimes liposuction is performed together with abdominoplasty to eradicate love handles or visceral fat. The plastic surgeon can either perform a full or partial tummy tuck. Partial abdominoplasty is less invasive and doesn't leave behind an unsightly scar. But it's up to the plastic surgeon to decide which procedure is best suited to the patient.
  • Face-lift
As we age, our skin loses its elasticity and because of this, wrinkles arise. A face-lift reduces the signs of ageing that include loose skin around the neck, jowls or a sagging face. A face-lift rejuvenates facial features and improves self-confidence. A fresh, youthful face has both personal and professional benefits and can be the reason for a promotion, especially for someone working in sales. In some cases, the plastic surgeon performs a face-lift in combination with a brow and eye lift for maximum cosmetic results. Botox and fillers are also added for specific face-lift procedures.
  • Blepharoplasty
Puffy eyelids usually occur due to age, but sometimes hereditary factors are to blame. A slow stimulation of collagen and elastin causes puffy and sagging eyelids. A blepharoplasty that’s known as an eye lift lifts sagging skin around the eyes. During a blepharoplasty, the plastic surgeon removes excess muscle, skin, and in some cases, fats that contribute to sagging skin around the eyes. A blepharoplasty is a quick forty-five-minute procedure that lasts for up to fifteen years. The results after the procedure are worth the cost. It takes about a week or two to recover after a blepharoplasty fully.
  • Liposuction
: Liposuction involves a suction technique that effectively removes fat from specific areas of the body. The hips, tummy, buttocks, thighs, arms and neck are few of the targeted areas for liposuction. The plastic surgeon performs liposuction to shape and refine areas of the body. Although liposuction isn’t a weight loss procedure, it does contour specific regions of the body. The goal of liposuction is to trim stubborn fat that cannot be reduced through healthy lifestyle changes. Both older and younger patients can undergo liposuction, although it generally takes longer for an older patient's skin to tighten. Liposuction, however, cannot reduce the effects of cellulite. Liposuction done in areas where there's cellulite present only enhances skin irregularities, and because of this, cellulite becomes more noticeable.
  • Skin cancer
Skin cancer arises as a result of skin damage due to overexposure from ultra-violet (UV) radiation. Skin cancer occurs due to the uncontrollable formation of cells in the outer layer of the skin. These abnormal cells snowball and form cancerous tumours. Basal cell sarcoma and squamous cell sarcoma are widespread forms of skin cancer. Along with DNA damage due to overexposure from the sun, excessive tanning also leads to skin cancer. Melanoma is a skin cancer that arises from the rapid growth of cells called melanocytes. Melanocytes are skin cells that give the skin its colour. Melanomas sometimes appear as moles or occur as a result of it.
  • Botox and fillers
Botulinum toxin or what’s known as Botox that’s often referred to as a “liquid face-lift” is a procedure that utilises liquid injectables to plump up the face, reduce the appearance of lines and eradicate wrinkles or crow’s feet. Botox is a painless cosmetic procedure that softens or paralyses overactive muscles that cause crow's feet. There's usually no bruising after the procedure, and its effects start to kick in after ten days. The results after Botox last for up to four months. But a top-up is needed as soon as lines begin to show. Dermal fillers are used to plump out regions of the face that have lost volume. As we age, our faces lose its natural bulk, our bones become smaller, and because of this, our eye sockets look larger than average, and our skin starts to thin and sag. Dermal fillers are injectable gels that mimic our natural facial fat. Fillers in mobile areas such as the lips don't last very long, but fillers used in less mobile sites such as the cheeks last longer than soft fillers. Fillers in the lips only last for up to six months whereas fillers in the cheeks last for up to eighteen months.
  • Buttock augmentation
Most celebrities turn to buttock augmentation to enhance the shape and size of their buttocks. The natural process of ageing and weight loss contribute to changes in the shape and size of our buttocks. Due to tissue laxity as a result of ageing, our buttocks tend to sag. The Brazilian butt lift is a favoured cosmetic procedure that lifts, tightens and adds more volume to the buttocks. Buttock augmentation is a fat transfer procedure that utilises liposuction to remove fat from the stomach, thighs or hips. The removed fat is disinfected and is prepared to be injected into regions of the buttocks to create a full buttock.
  • Hair transplant
It's normal to shed hair, but sudden hair loss can be alarming. Male pattern baldness is a prevalent problem for most men. A family history of male pattern baldness and genetics contribute to hair loss in men. The poor regulation of male sex hormones such as androgens also plays a role in the development of hair loss in men. Each hair follicle has a growth pattern, and with male pattern baldness, the growth cycle becomes stunted, and as a result, the hair follicle becomes fine and short. Eventually, the growth cycle of each hair follicle comes to an abrupt end. Vitamin deficiencies such as iron and B12 contribute to hair loss in women, but other potential causes could be related to stress, hormonal imbalances, polycystic ovarian syndrome (POS) and thyroid issues. To relieve both female and male pattern baldness, the plastic surgeon removes healthy hair follicles from a donor site and transfers it to balding areas to create a full head of hair.
  • Breast augmentation
Breast augmentation also called a "boob job" involves the use of a fat transfer or breast implants to enhance the size of one’s breasts. Breast augmentation restores the shape and size of one’s breasts. After pregnancy or weight loss, breasts start to sag, become asymmetrical and lose its firmness. But after breast augmentation, breasts become firm and round. Some women are concerned about the quality of their breast implants, but Motiva implants are safe and durable breast implants. Motiva implants are equipped with state-of-the-art “Q Inside Technology,” that provides women with information about their breast implants. With MotivaHybrid, women can use fat cells to adjust their breast implants.
  • V-shot and P-shot
A v-shot is a painless, natural procedure that improves clitoral and vaginal function. Some women experience pain during sex, and others have a leaky bladder. A v-shot, however, combats vaginal discomfort and enhances one’s sex life and prevents urinary incontinence. It’s through platelet-rich plasma (PRP) that consist of proteins that facilitate cell rejuvenation that vaginal stimulation can occur. A v-shot not only improves a woman’s sex life, but it also ensures a smooth and youthful-looking vulva. So instead of resorting to prescription drugs or pain killers, a v-shot is a woman’s best option. A p-shot enhances the size of a man’s penis. As a result of a p-shot, men can have long-lasting erections and enjoy prolonged sexual sensations.
  • Breast lift
As an alternative to breast augmentation, women can turn to breast lift surgery to increase the shape and size of their breasts. A breast lift not only raises one's breasts, but it also lifts the nipples and areolae. Although a breast lift doesn’t drastically improve the size of breasts, if performed together with breast augmentation, the shape and size of breasts can improve dramatically. A breast lift restores flat or sagging breasts to its original healthy shape and size. During a breast lift, the plastic surgeon removes a surplus of skin, and he reshapes and lifts breast tissue. Although a breast lift won’t drastically enhance the size of one’s breasts, it boosts self-image and leads to a better quality of life.
  • Gynaecomastia
Gynaecomastia occurs when there’s too much breast gland tissue in men. This condition arises from an imbalance of oestrogen and testosterone in the body. Although Gynaecomastia isn't a severe condition, it can cause self-esteem issues and be embarrassing. Typically men who suffer from Gynaecomastia experience swollen and sore breasts. Dr Sofianos performs Gynaecomastia surgery to reduce a man's enlarged breasts and instead flattens and contours the chest. Surgery or medication is only necessary if signs of Gynaecomastia don't disappear.
  • PRP
Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is an injectable substance that promotes healing. This concentrated plasma consists of proteins that facilitate cell growth and help blood clot. PRP rejuvenates areas of the body such as the face and genitals. PRP is not only used for cosmetic reasons but also treats urinary incontinence, Peyronie’s Disease and athletic injuries such as Achilles tendonitis and tennis elbow. PRP injections are also used to treat male pattern baldness. Usually, PRP is injected directly into the scalp to stimulate the growth of new, healthy hair follicles. When PRP is injected into the skin, collagen and elastin are naturally produced. The production of collagen and elastin rejuvenates the face as well as the vagina or penis.
  • Lip-lift
A lip-lift enhances the shape and size of one’s lips. Although fillers are a great way to increase the size of lips, it isn’t a permanent solution and requires reapplication after many months. A lip-lift, however, permanently enhances one’s lips and gives it an attractive shape. As we age, our lips become thinner and because of this, the space between our lips and nose increases. A lip-lift is a great way to bridge the gap between the nose and lips. Sometimes with fillers, lips can appear abnormally large, and it's for this reason, a lip-lift is a more desirable option.
  • Rhinoplasty
A rhinoplasty or nose job has become a popular cosmetic procedure, especially among celebrities. Although rhinoplasty is generally done to change the size, shape and alignment of one's nose, it's also done to repair defects that arise from trauma or a congenital disability. A rhinoplasty is necessary if you have trouble breathing due to a congenital disability. A rhinoplasty takes an hour and a half to three hours, and the nose is packed, and a splint is applied to prevent bleeding. The upper part of the nose comprises of bone while the lower part is made up of cartilage. The plastic surgeon can rearrange skin, bone or cartilage.
  • Cleft lip and palate
An infant born with a cleft palate has a gap in the roof of his or her mouth. Because of this defect, there's a noticeable split between the nose and lips. A cleft lip and palate form when the baby's mouth and facial tissues don't fuse adequately. A cleft lip and palate is a prevalent congenital disability that causes feeding issues and speech impairment. The use of certain prescription medications and exposure to toxins during pregnancy contributes to the baby's development of a cleft lip and palate. Surgery to repair a cleft lip and palate not only enhances self-confidence, but it corrects feeding problems and speech impairment.
  • Prominent ear correction
Prominent ear correction or what’s commonly called “otoplasty” is cosmetic ear surgery that is performed to reduce the size of the ears, especially if the patient feels his or her ears is too large. Ear pinning is the ideal ear corrective surgery for children. Because of large or disproportionate ears, children face ridicule from their peers at school, but now, with corrective ear surgery, children with large ears don't have to feel self-conscious any longer. Dr Sofianos makes a few cuts in the small creases behind the ear and readjusts or reshapes the ear to the patient’s liking. Finally, the plastic surgeon uses stitches to secure the ear in place.
  • Breast reconstruction
A woman usually turns to breast reconstruction after a lumpectomy or mastectomy. Usually, after a lumpectomy, a woman’s breasts don't feel the same. And so to regain confidence, breast reconstructive surgery is an ideal solution. Breast reconstruction helps to enhance the symmetry, volume and size of the breasts. Breast reconstruction involves the use of breast implants or is done through a tissue transfer (flap procedure). Four months after the new breast has healed, nipple and areola construction needs to become a priority. If women don’t want to opt for surgery and tattooing, the use of nipple prosthetics remains an option. Tattooing is necessary if you wish to match the fleshy tone of the nipple and areola of both breasts.
  • Carpal tunnel syndrome
Carpal tunnel syndrome forms when your median nerve becomes constricted. The condition may arise in either one or both hands. Tingling sensation in the fingers and hands are signs of carpal tunnel syndrome. Carpal tunnel syndrome occurs as a result of pain in the carpal tunnel due to pressure on the median nerve and wrist. The plastic surgeon performs carpal tunnel release surgery to relieve pressure on the median nerve. Through carpal tunnel release surgery, Dr Sofianos separates the roof of the carpal tunnel or transverse carpal ligament to alleviate pressure on the median nerve.
  • Massive weight loss
Dramatic weight loss as a result of lifestyle changes or bariatric surgery has many benefits. Despite the numerous health benefits that come from extreme weight loss, it can also lead to tissue laxity or excess skin. Body contouring surgery helps define the shape and size of the body. Before Dr Sofianos performs body contouring surgery, he discusses surgical options with his patients and their families that include a tummy tuck, thigh-lift, arm-lift, breast lift or face-lift. Sometimes the plastic surgeon performs multiple body contouring procedures to achieve the patient’s desired look. Typically after body contouring surgery, it takes approximately three weeks for the patient to recover.
  • Breast reduction
Breast reduction is a cosmetic procedure that's performed to remove a surplus of tissue, skin or fat from the breasts. Breast reduction is conducted to reshape and redefine the patient’s breasts. Macromastia is a condition that causes distress in women who have abnormally large breasts. Macromastia arises from the rapid growth of breast tissue. Women who suffer from macromastia suffer from back, shoulder and neck pain. Breast reduction is the most appropriate form of treatment for macromastia. After Dr Sofianos removes excess tissue from the breast to reduce its size, he repositions the nipple and at the same time achieves symmetry between both breasts. It’s highly likely that the patient will notice slight variations in the size and shape of her breasts. But overall, the patient will start to see positive results at least four weeks after the surgery.
  • Hand injuries
Hand surgery depends on the nature of the hand injury. Ganglion cysts are benign bumps that form on the joints or tendons in the hands or wrists. If ganglion cysts fail to disappear, the surgeon performs surgery to remove or drain the cyst. The plastic surgeon performs surgeries to resolve nerve compression syndromes like carpal tunnel syndrome or hand and wrist injuries as a result of trauma. Syndactyly is a congenital disability that occurs when the toes or fingers are joined together. Dr Sofianos carries out microsurgical procedures to correct a congenital disability such as syndactyly.
  • Arm-lift
As we age, the skin on the upper part of our arms becomes loose and sags. If the patient loses a considerate amount of weight, the skin on his or her arms also becomes lax. Although exercise can strengthen the upper arms, it, unfortunately, cannot eradicate this excess of skin. Before the plastic surgeon performs an arm-lift or what's referred to as a “Brachioplasty, “he carries out liposuction. Liposuction is necessary if there’s a lot of fat in the arms. Through an arm-lift, the plastic surgeon reshapes and contours the arms. An arm-lift enhances the appearance of the patient’s arms and renews his or her self-confidence.
  • Dermastamp
Dermastamp or Aquagold is a micro-needling treatment that transfers vitamins, Botox, fillers or PRP into the dermis. The skin of any age will benefit from micro-needling. Micro-needling treats acne, pigmentation and signs of ageing like wrinkles or lines. A derma stamp is an accurate needling device that's cheaper and more effective than a derma roller and is used to create holes in the skin to stimulate the production of collagen. Collagen strengthens the skin, replaces dead skin cells and tightens the skin. A derma stamp also stimulates the skin's hydration, improves its texture and promotes even-toned skin. After derma stamp treatment, the patient may experience some redness in his or her skin that doesn't last long.
  • Thigh-lift
A thigh-lift is a cosmetic procedure that’s performed to lift, reshape and contour the thighs. Dr Sofianos removes a surplus of fat and skin to reshape and improve the appearance of the thighs. The plastic surgeon will have to perform a thigh-lift together with liposuction to remove excess fat. Sometimes liposuction alone is sufficient to eradicate excess thigh fat. The pattern of the skin markings made before a thigh-lift determines the amount of skin that needs to be removed. After a thigh-lift, the patient cannot engage in strenuous activity as this might stretch the cuts. Typically the patient will experience pain after the procedure, but Dr Sofianos prescribes medication to relieve any discomfort.
  • Dupuytren’s disease
Dupuytren’s disease is a progressive hand deformity that arises when tissue knots form under the skin of the palm, and because of this, one or several of the fingers bend out of position. Because of this condition, the fingers cannot straighten, and this makes it difficult to shake hands, put on gloves or play sports. Over a few years, the skin on the palm starts to thicken and as a result a painless bump that’s sensitive to touch forms on the palm.
  • Labiaplasty
A labiaplasty is a surgery to rejuvenate the vagina. An enlarged labia is one of the main reasons for a labiaplasty. A woman with an abnormally large labia may experience urinary tract infections (UTIs) and find it challenging to engage in physical activity. Dr Sofianos performs a labiaplasty to reduce the size of the labia minora so that it doesn’t protrude. A trim labiaplasty procedure is performed to trim and seal a surplus of soft tissue. The wedge method is another alternative procedure that preserves the edges of the vagina and gives it a natural finish. It takes time to recover from a labiaplasty, but Dr Sofianos prescribes medication to relieve pain.
  • Lower limb reconstruction
Reconstruction of the lower extremity restores the appearance and function of patient’s ankle, foot and leg. Dr Sofianos utilises advanced microsurgical techniques to preserve the reconstructed lower limb. Lower limb reconstruction is necessary after the patient experiences trauma, illness, infection or due to a complication from previous surgery. A bone or soft tissue injury as a result of trauma, bone infections and exposed prosthetic joints are a few of the reasons for lower limb reconstruction. Recovery after lower limb reconstruction takes time and requires an intense rehabilitation program that consists of physical therapy exercises and sessions with a psychologist to prevent emotional distress.
  • Lymphoedema
Lymphoedema is swelling that occurs in the patient’s legs or arms. Lymphoedema arises from the removal of lymph nodes that forms part of the patient’s cancer treatment. In some instances when there’s a blockage in the lymphatic system, lymph fluid fails to drain correctly and instead accumulates. Swelling occurs due to the build-up of lymphatic fluid. Although there’s no cure for lymphoedema, there are ways to manage the condition. Few surgical procedures help relieve pain from lymphoedema. Liposuction and the Charles procedure are done to remove excess fat cells or tissue. The Charles procedure is performed to remove excess tissue through excision. Other surgical procedures are carried out to repair the patient's malfunctioned lymphatic system.
