ABOUT
Michael Heyns was born in 1970 in Cape Town, South Africa.
He completed his high school career at Grey College in Bloemfontein. He matriculated at this highly acclaimed school in 1987.
Dr Heyns completed his undergraduate medical training at the Free State University obtaining MB ChB in 1994.
He became a Fellow of the College of Surgeons of South Africa in 2001 (FCS(SA)). The Douglas Award for the most outstanding achievement in the final examination of the College of Surgeons of South Africa was awarded to him in May 2002.
He has participated in numerous advanced laparoscopic training courses in Europe as well as hosting laparoscopic workshops in South Africa.
Dr Heyns is married to Dr Lizanne Barry, who assists him with most of his laparoscopic work. They have two lovely daughters and as a family, they enjoy wildlife photography whilst camping in Africa.
